Book Policy
The SOIC Library loans books, but
only through other libraries -- we do not ship directly to patrons. The
request must be placed through your local library, which will likely use
their own interlibrary loan system first to see if they can obtain the
item locally. If your local library requests the item through us, you
may be responsible for fees associated with shipping. If your local librarian
needs more information to identify the book or regarding the loan, please
have them contact the SOIC Librarian for
assistance.
While we cannot photocopy an entire
book (due to copyright laws), we can photocopy a table of contents or
index to allow you to identify the part of the book you'd like to request
copied, if you're interested in only a small section.
Collection/Accession Policy
The collection focuses on inkwells, inkstands,
ink bottles, and to some extent, related writing tools.
- Due to copyright laws, donations must
be original materials. Photocopies of sources are also accepted as a
means by which to search for originals, and to add a citation and abstract
to the next issue of the Bibliography.
- All donations become property of the
SOIC Library.
- The Librarian will engage in active
accessioning of materials, with approval from the Library Committee
if necessary.
- Donations will be accepted by the Librarian,
and the SOIC Director will provide a letter of thanks and tax deduction
information to the donor.
Deaccession Policy
SOIC reserves the right to deaccession
materials it finds no longer apply to the goal of the organization, through
the following procedure:
1. The Librarian presents the material to be deaccessioned to the Library
Committee.
2. The Library Committee has 30 days on which to either approve or not
approve the deaccessioning. A vote of at least 3:1 or 4:1 is needed for
approval (depending on Committee size).
3. If the materials are approved for deaccessioning, they are either offered
first the donor, then to SOIC Members, then to the general public, and
then for disposal at the Librarian's discretion.
